Luhya

The Luhya comprise several subgroups with different but mutually understood linguistic dialects. Some of these subgroups are Ababukusu, Abanyala, Abatachoni, Avalogoli, Abamarama, Abaidakho, Abaisukha, Abatiriki, Abakisa, Abamarachi, and Abasamia.
The Luhya people revers some of their ritualistic practices most especially their initiation ceremonies (the Bukusu) and burial rites.
Traditional clothing is worn mostly during specific occasions and only by certain people. In cultural dances, performers may put on feathered hats and skirts made of sisal strands.
Luhya are nationally renowned for their energetic and vibrant isukuti dance accompanied by music instruments such as drums, jingles, flutes, and accordions

A popular musical instrument among the Njemps is a musical flute (masilingi) made from iron obtained from used water pipes. It is played as a form of leisure.

The Taita people are settled in the taita hills which were the focus for religious activity and there are huge Rocks (Magamba), and caves known as 'Mbanga' that were considered very sacred places for the dead and for worship. Many groups still preserve their former sacred sites intact, where the skulls of the deceased are placed as reminders of the presence of the ancestors, and of the obligation owed by the living to the dead.
Traditionally, the Taita people liked expressing themselves in music. They had many interesting forms of traditional dances, the most fascinating of which was the spirit-possession dances called Mwazindika.
Their popular traditional cuisines include Kimanga (a mashed combination of beans plus either cassava, sweet potatoes, pumpkins, or bananas accompanied by mbangara, a Taita traditional drink made out of sugarcane, corn or cassava
