Matching Grants under the COMESA–EAC Horticulture Accelerator (CEHA)

The Alliance for Commodity Trade in Eastern and Southern Africa (ACTESA), a specialized agency of COMESA, through the COMESA–EAC Horticulture Accelerator (CEHA), has announced a call for official applications from agribusinesses operating in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Ethiopia, and Rwanda for Matching Grants aimed at accelerating the growth and sustainability of horticultural value chains.

This initiative, under the CEHA Matching Grant Facility Implementation and Award Modality (MGFIAM), seeks to support innovative agribusiness projects that enhance smallholder farmer incomes, promote gender equity, foster climate-smart practices, and strengthen competitiveness within horticultural value chains across the region. In addition to financial support, the program offers tailored non-financial assistance, including business development services, value chain integration, and facilitation of market access.

The grants range from USD 50,000 to USD 100,000, with a matching requirement that applicants contribute a minimum of 50% of the total project cost in cash. Successful applicants will also benefit from business development support such as training on business planning and fiscal management, market access, and partnerships through linkages with regional buyers and suppliers, capacity building to improve productivity and food safety systems, and investor readiness through matchmaking with local and regional investors.

To qualify, applicants must be legally registered and active in at least one of the target countries, operate within the specified horticultural value chains, demonstrate commercial viability and scalability, provide proof of 50% cash co-investment, and comply with social, labour, and environmental standards. The deadline for submission of applications is 14th January 2026 at 17:00 hrs EAT.

Interested agribusinesses should submit their applications via email to [email protected] while copying [email protected]

This call represents a significant opportunity for agribusinesses to scale operations, integrate into regional value chains, and contribute to sustainable horticulture development in Eastern and Southern Africa.
