
Kenya stepped onto the global stage with confidence during the Kenya-Japan High-Level Business Forum held at the Osaka International Convention Center on the sidelines of Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan. The one-day event brought together senior government officials, industry leaders, and business stakeholders from both Kenya and Japan to explore new avenues for trade, investment, and collaboration.
The forum was officially opened by Kenya’s Principal Secretary for Trade, Regina A. Ombam, who emphasized Kenya’s strategic position as a gateway to Africa and its robust potential in sectors like agriculture, tourism, infrastructure, and manufacturing. Other high-level dignitaries included Mr. Hideki Sho, Director General of JETRO Osaka, and Ms. Tsujisaka Takako from Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry.
Delivering the keynote address, Kenya’s Cabinet Secretary for Investment, Trade and Industry, Hon. Lee Kinyanjui, highlighted the nation’s ambitious development agenda and its push to attract quality investments. “Kenya is open for business, and we invite our Japanese partners to be part of our growth story,” he stated.
The forum featured in-depth presentations and panel discussions covering bilateral trade opportunities, special economic zones, EPZA incentives, tourism prospects, and labor mobility. Notable contributions came from private sector leaders such as Mr. Jun Karube of Toyota Tsusho Corporation and Mr. Takahisa Takahara, President of Unicharm Corporation.
Women’s empowerment, innovation, and Kenya’s iconic exports including tea and flowers also took center stage. A dedicated session featuring representatives from Nairobi, Meru, Nyamira, and Mombasa counties showcased localized investment opportunities in healthcare, trade, and culture.
The forum concluded with a vibrant networking session and exhibitions, offering participants a chance to build connections and explore partnerships.
