World Expos are organized by the International Bureau of Expositions (BIE) which is an Intergovernmental organization with 171 member states Kenya included. Expos are a global gathering of nations dedicated to finding solutions to pressing challenges of our time by offering a journey inside a universal theme through engaging and immersive activities. The events have gained prominence as platforms for economic, scientific, technological, and cultural exchanges while serving as important frameworks for displaying historical experiences. Participating countries showcase their best cultural, industrial, trade, and scientific innovations.
Kenya has participated in eight (8) expos: Expo 2000 Hanover, Germany; Expo 2005 Aichi, Japan; Expo 2008 Zaragoza, Spain; Expo 2010 Shanghai, China; Expo 2012 Yeosu, Korea; Expo 2015, Milan, Italy; Expo 2017 Astana, Kazakhstan; and the recently concluded Expo 2020 Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Expos have enabled the promotion of Kenya’s brand and positioning of the Country as a source of high-quality products and services, the destination of choice for tourism and investment opportunities.
The Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan is being held for a period of 6 months (184 days), having started on 13th April 2025 and closing on 13th October 2025. The theme of the Expo is “Designing Future Society for Our Lives” aimed at making individuals reflect on how they want to live and how they can maximize their potential. Kenya is among the 160 Countries and 7 international organizations that have confirmed participation in the Expo 2025. The Country’s participation in the Expo is conceptualized on the theme, “Kenya Rising from the bottom-up” tied to the “Empowering Lives” sub-theme of the Expo, to highlight Kenya's rich cultural heritage, its history of innovation and progress, and its potential for continued growth and development in creating a brighter future for Kenya and its people in line with the Government’s Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).
Kenya’s participation in the Expo 2025 is being coordinated by the Kenya Export Promotion and Branding Agency (KEPROBA), as the Responsible National Authority (RNA) and implementing Agency for Kenya’s participation in World expositions. Kenya’s participation in the Expo is anchored on its commitment to sustainable renewable energy, financial inclusion, climate change, food security, and poverty eradication, which have contributed to economic resilience.
